Skills Training Center and Outreaches

We started on the streets and will continue to be there for the children still living on the streets. ~Jacqueline Wolfson

Situated in the center of the slum, our Skills Training Center is open three days a weeks, for now.

We offer children two meals — breakfast and lunch — as well as a place to shower, wash their clothes, brush their teeth, get their haircut, play board games like chess and Scrabble, watch movies, participate in skills training workshops and catch-up classing for English and Math, receive counseling and medical care. The kids garden, run around, exercise and receive lots of love and encouragement. And soon we will be offering IT classes.

At the center, we are able to forge strong relationships with the kids still living on the streets and identity those who are ready to leave street life behind. Building a solid foundation between us and the kids, plays a very important role in the child not returning to the street after we have moved them to our transitional home.

Our weekly program

Every week, we purchase food (beans, posho and millet), fruits and vegetables, spices and other cooking items — enough to provide two meals per day for approximately 100 street kids, over the course of three days. We also provide the kids with quality skin care products, laundry soap, toothbrushes and paste, among other things. But we want to do more.

 Monthly Outreaches

With over 15,500 children living on the streets across Uganda, Shule conducts monthly outreaches in different regions. One day a month in partnership with other organizations we host a full day of activities for children living on the streets. The day consists of:

  • Registration
  • Clothe Distribution
  • Counseling and Workshops
  • Showering and Hair cutting
  • Food, Beverages, Music, Dancing and Games
  • HIV Testing, TB Screening, Deworming and Medical Care
